Ian has over 30 years of investment banking and corporate finance advisory experience. Prior to joining Marula Capital, Ian spent almost 20 years as a Managing Director with Fogel Capital Partners, a corporate finance advisory firm, where he provided M&A buy-side and sell-side advisory, debt and equity private placement, and general corporate finance advisory services to companies, family offices and other organizations across various sectors, including technology, insurance, consumer products, healthcare, entertainment, waste management and oil and gas. Prior to joining Fogel Capital, Ian spent four years as a Managing Director at Deloitte Corporate Finance.

Since October 2016, Ian has also been a Managing Director of Life Models LLC, an insurance advisory services firm, and he spent many years as a corporate finance advisor to and then as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the LifeFirms Group of Companies, a single-family office, where he oversaw the multiple operating entities owned by the Group.

Ian is a Certified Public Accountant and has both Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He also holds several insurance licenses.
